BLOCK! ISLAND! WIND! FARM!
Block Island Wind Farm is the first commercial offshore wind farm in the United States, located 3.8 miles (6.1 km) from Block Island, Rhode Island in the Atlantic Ocean. The five-turbine, 30 MW project was developed by Deepwater Wind. Construction began in 2015 and in late summer 2016 five Alstom Haliade 150-6-MW turbines were erected. Operations were launched in December 2016. It is the largest project using wind power in Rhode Island.
Are you wondering the what the hell I'm going on about? Wanting to know why I'm jamming this "Block Island Wind Farm" down your throat? Well, mostly it's to tell you all why the hell the site is called "Block Island Baseball." But what caused me to get so fixated with a random renewable energy source in Rhode Island?
So there's this game called skribbl.io. Kinda like online Pictionary. You may have heard of it, it's gotten pretty popular lately. Anyway, my buds and I were playing it one fateful evening and we were getting a little bored of it. So one of my friends got the idea to find random Wikipedia pages and just add them to a list of custom words. We did an entire round with exclusively those random Wikipedia terms. One of them was "Block Island Wind Farm," and it came up four consecutive times. You had to have been there. Writing doesn't do it justice. It probably sounds incredibly stupid to you reading this. Because it was! But that's OK! I like stupid things!
Seriously, though, I do like wind farms, though. Renewable energy rules! We actually found Block Island Wind Farm's tourism website, and on it they advertise their guided tours led by a "wind farm enthusiast." I just thought that was funny. And stupid. Again, I like stupid things.
If you don't like stupid things, head to the blog page, where I at least attempt to be smart. Or just copy and paste this entire thing at me to torment my nightmares.
